10 Years of Resonant Mastering!

Resonant Mastering turns 10 this year! We want to celebrate with a little trip down memory lane.

Resonant was formed by Ed Brooks and Rachel Field. Their roles alongside Rick Fisher at RFI Mastering lead them to the opportunity to buy and transform the company into their own as Resonant Mastering on June 22, 2016.

Ed got his start in audio doing tech work under Matthew Sutton for studios around Seattle. This is where he would be introduced to engineer Rick Fisher. Some years later, while freelancing around town as an audio engineer, Ed and Rick ran into each other again at a promo event for a new BASF tape.

This lead to Rick inviting Ed to be part of RFI in 1999, and he has been mastering ever since!

Rachel began her audio career after moving to Seattle. A drummer friend of hers who had recently done a recording session was talking to her about the drum mic-ing techniques, which inspired her to study audio engineering.

Within a couple of weeks she was enrolled in school.

While there, she became the president of her AES Student Chapter, where she would meet other audio professionals and learn of a job opening for a production assistant at RFI.

After a few rounds of interviews, Rick and Ed welcomed Rachel to the team! Soon, she would develop a passion for mastering, and after many months of mentoring from Rick she started her own career as a mastering engineer.

Annie Larkin also got her start in audio after moving to Seattle from Eastern Washington. After studying audio engineering at Robert Lang Studios in 2018, then grinding through the pandemic in a grocery store, she joined the Resonant team in 2022 as the production engineer.

Since then Annie has been apprenticing under both Rachel and Ed to hone her ears and build skills as a mastering engineer.

That brings us to today, where we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to create so many lasting relationships with the people we work with each day.

Whether you've just discovered us or been sitting in on sessions since 1999, thank you for helping Resonant grow while honoring the legacy of RFI.

Here's to ten more years of community and helping artists bring their music to life!
